It's been a long, cold winter, and if you are like the millions of others craving sunlight and warm weather, you are desperate to start your shopping for spring and summer's hottest fashions and get the season started already! This, of course, begs the question: What can we expect to see hitting the stores?
1. Crayola Brights
Fashion designers have opted to welcome spring and summer with vibrant colors like tomato red, canary yellow, and cobalt. In fact, don't be surprised to see a lot of rainbows in your clothing choices, the bold colors being mixed and matched in everything from checks to florals and everything in between.
If the thought of wearing vibrant colors has you envisioning Rainbow Bright dolls, the next trend will help you breathe a little easier. Pastels are making a comeback, particularly the shades of lilac and pale yellow. Like the icing on the cake, pastels will be sweet and pretty, these frosted hues long overdue for their return.
Fringes, ruffles, feathers, and a host of other textures are making their way back this year to spice up fashion. Admittedly, these features are not very practical, but they add flair and personality to clothing, acting like an accessory all on its own.
4. Vinyl and Plastics
Fabric and linen, move over! Plastic clothing is making its way into fashion, no longer being limited to raincoats. Clear plastic in particular seems to be the growing trend, letting you show off your style in more ways than one. Did we mention that these are easy to clean?
5. The 80's
From the colors and styles, the 80's are making their way back. This includes a flashback to the disco era with its glitter and glam, and the high-waisted pants and broad-shouldered puffed sleeves. Don't forget about the jumpsuits, as those are making a comeback as well. Dig out that box from the back of the closet and reminisce about fashions gone by.
From plaids to checkerboards, checks are going to be found on everything from handbags to coats and everything in between. This boxy pattern comes back into style in time to rival the other patterns that are trending this year, polka dots and floral. Chess, anyone?
7. Polka Dots
If plaid and gingham aren't you thing, polka dots will be another hot pattern this year, ranging in sizes and boldness. If you love the song, “Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”, this will be the year to find one of your very own.
8. Floral Dresses
Something completely different from both checks and polka dots, floral is always a popular choice. While bringing in the spring and summer season with flowers might seem cliché, floral prints ranging in colors and styles will be everywhere and in every color just like the prettiest gardens in the world.
9. The Trench
The almighty trench coat has long been a staple in any wardrobe, but it is making a comeback with the addition of several of the above mentioned trends from plastics to checks. If a trench isn't already a part of your wardrobe, it should be, and now is the time to make it happen.
10. Pencil Skirts
Form fitting and ultra-flattering pencil skirts are returning to the wardrobe, bringing a classy look back to your professional wardrobe. When put together with some of the above-mentioned trends, pencil skirts are rising above their previous greatness to new levels of style.
